ABOUT ABOUT

Enter the world of Monet, Renoir, and other impressionist artists during this educator event featuring the special exhibition Intimate Impressionism from the National Gallery of Art. Compare masterworks from the National Gallery of Art with McNay counterparts for deeper learning about the artists’ innovations and influences. Director of Conservation at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston David Bomford discusses the painting techniques of the impressionists in a keynote address. Following tours of the special exhibition, choose two focus workshops from four cross-curricular options.

Session 1: Letters from the Impressionists

Enter the works of Intimate Impressionism through letters written by the artists themselves. This session takes place in the exhibition.

Session 2: Impressionist Soundtrack

Hear the blurred harmony and delicate shadings of impressionist music and learn interdisciplinary ways to use music in your classroom.

Session 3: A Room with a View

Step back in time and space by painting your own color impressions directly from a still-life interior arrangement based on a work by Vuillard or Bonnard.

Session 4: Connecting the Dots

Explore the painting techniques of the pointillists in this hands-on workshop.
